The latin name is the one that matters.

We write both. If a friend asks for a swiss cheese plant and you bring home a monstera, that worked. If they ask for a money tree, ask which one.

The letter on the shelf is the latin, not the nickname.

If a tag is missing, ask. We would rather say we do not know than invent a name that sells.
